Dr. Dennis Willingham, Superintendent
As the Superintendent at the Walker County Board of Education, Dr. Dennis Willingham knows what it means to invest in Walker County’s future, having taught special education and social sciences for 6 years at all levels (elementary/ middle/ high school). He was an assistant principal for 5 years at all levels (elementary/ middle/ high school) and a principal for 10 years at a K-8 school. He is an adjunct professor at the University of West Alabama in the Instructional Leadership Program.
Dr. Willingham is a certified Cognia (AdvancEd) Lead Evaluator and serves on accreditation teams for schools and school systems . He currently serves on the Board of Directors for AASCD (statewide) and the Walker County Chamber of Commerce (local). He also serves on the Department of Human Resources (DHR) Quality Assurance Committee and the Selective Service Committee for the United States Government. Dr. Willingham was chosen to be an Executive Coach to mentor superintendents in the state of Alabama. He most recently presented to the students in the TRIO Teacher Prop Program at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) during Teach Week. Dr. Willingham earned his B.S., M.S, and Ed.S. degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his Ed.D. from Samford University.
