About Our District

About Us

The Walker County School district, located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, began as 48 one or two room schoolhouses spread out over the county.  It emplyed only 48 teachers and served around 1,850 students.  The school system’s first superintendent dates back to 1857 with around 1, 850 students and 48 teachers.  Today, we now  employ almost 1,300 teachers, administrators, instructional and other support personnel. We also educate over 6,700 students, pre-kindergarten through 12th grades.

All of our elementary, middle, jr. high and high schools are Marzano Level 1 and/or Level 2 certified and several of our schools are CLAS Tier 1 certified.

Regardless of what path our students decide to take in life, we are determined to prepare them for a successful futurre by offering students multiple opportunities to achieve their career goals whether it’s with our Walker County Center of Technology, our partnership with Bevill State Community College via dual enrollment classes, or through classes offered at one of our 5 high schools.
