Unexcused Absences
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE CHILD HAS UNEXCUSED ABSENCES?
If a child has two or more UNEXCUSED absences, the school, in accordance with the Walker County Board of
Education Attendance Policy, will send a letter home to the parents notifying them of the absences. Accumulation of
more absences will result in a parent conference and then participation at an attendance hearing at the Walker County
Schools Board Room. These hearings are a collaborative effort between the Walker County School System, The
Youth Advocacy Program, as well as the Walker County Juvenile Court. Accumulation of seven or more
UNEXCUSED absences will result in a truancy court petition being filed against the parent/guardian.
