Parent Responsibilities
WHAT ARE THE PARENT’S RESPONSIBILITIES IN PROVIDING EXCUSES AFTER THE CHILD IS
ABSENT?
STATE LAW requires the parent or guardian to explain the cause of every absence of students under his/her control.
Upon returning to school and within 2 days, every student must bring a written excuse signed by the parent/guardian. The written excuse should be presented to the principal or his/her designee. The note should
include the following: the child’s full name; the date to be excused; the reason for the absence; phone
number where parent can be reached; signature of parent or doctor. NO signature stamps or nurse’s
signatures will be accepted.
