WHAT DO THE LAWS SAY?

The Alabama Compulsory Attendance Law (Code of Alabama, Section 16283)
says that “every child between the
ages of 7 and 17 shall be required to attend a public school, private school, church school or be instructed by a
competent private tutor for the entire length of the school term in every scholastic year…”

The Attendance and Conduct Act (94782)
states that each parent/guardian or other person having control or custody
of a child required to attend school who fails to require the child to enroll, to regularly attend school, or compel the
child to properly conduct himself/herself as a pupil in accordance with the written policy on school behavior shall be
guilty of a misdemeanor.
